PM: Cambodia is Small and Poor, But Still Able to Invite Leaders to Attend the ASEAN Summit

PHNOM PENH: Prime Minister Hun Sen has affirmed that Cambodia hosted the ASEAN Summits smoothly and successfully. He acknowledged that Cambodia is poor, but still has the ability to organize this summit very well.

Speaking at a press conference on the outcomes of the 40th and 41st ASEAN Summits and related summits at the Peace Palace on Sunday, 13 November 2022, the Prime Minister said, "Cambodia is poor and small, but we have the ability to invite Presidents and Prime Ministers from rich countries [to join us].”

The Prime Minister stated that it is due to complete peace in Cambodia that major countries were encouraged to come and attend the ASEAN Summits and related meetings.

He further emphasized that the successful conclusion of the four-day ASEAN Summits was due to having a Cambodian Minister of Foreign Affairs who was intelligent, supportive, and patient. He said that if there were not ministers and government officials with high intelligence and capabilities, Cambodia would have fallen halfway already.
